What is Chiropractic

Chiropractic is based on the close relationship between the spine and nervous system. The nervous system controls all other systems in the body. A requisite for health is a normal functioning spine and nervous system. Conditions occur in the spine in which the vertebrae become subluxated (misaligned or fixated), discs herniate, or nerve openings become narrowed. These produce interference to or irritation of nerves. Common consequences are musculoskeletal pain, decreased motion, and eventually arthritic changes in the spine. Effects to nerves may cause organ dysfunction elsewhere in the body.

Chiropractors seek to restore function of the spine and nervous system and a return to health through conservative measures without the use of drugs or surgery. Several approaches can relieve symptoms. Only one approach has been shown to relieve symptoms while improving function. That approach is chiropractic care with its emphasis on spinal manipulation.

You should be confident that when you feel better under chiropractic care it is because your body is functioning better and is healthier, not because the symptoms have been masked with some medication.
